JoAnne takes inspiration from the binary and non-binary functions of nature, human systems and her own life experience. Her works reflects on these through the binary (up/knit, down/purl) nature of knitting. Like the 0 and 1 binary that computers run on it both limits the process to the simplest of decisions and expands exponentially.
JoAnne has a background in legal research and tax policy. Of trying to make things work better and to consider what is often missed, and how process can hide reality. Her academic interest and her knitted work flow from the same frustrations and desires.
